Chiropractic News

The same holds for chiropractors' offices as many other places right now in that if you are not feeling well, or are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms, you should reschedule your chiropractic appointment until you are feeling better. Get tested, and stay home just to be safe.

If you have to reschedule due to illness, ask your chiropractor what you can do at home to help your situation. To keep chiropractors and their staff safe, we must respect Covid-19 guidelines.

Are Chiropractors Safe?

Before your very first chiropractic appointment, you may be wondering if your adjustments are going to hurt and if it is safe. Rest assured that it may seem intimidating, yet it is noninvasive and patients often begin feeling relief immediately.

The sound alone can be alarming. Rest assured, it is only a change of pressure that occurs when the adjustment happens. Check out these FAQs for more info.

A chiropractic appointment is tailored to your needs, your body, and takes into consideration your underlying issues. You will go through a thorough intake and exam before getting any type of adjustment.

Is chiropractic safe for children? Yes! For the youngest members of your family, there are pediatric chiropractors that they can visit fresh out of the womb.

Chiropractors and their staff are taking extra precautions to keep the office and equipment sterilized and disinfected now even more than ever. They need to be able to continue to offer in-office visits, yet be as safe as possible.

Most Common Reasons to See a Chiropractor

The most common and obvious reason someone would see a chiropractor is back pain. Both chronic and acute pain can be treated by chiropractic.

Following a car accident for anything from minor to major adjustments that help assist in recovery. Treatment can help reduce inflammation and relieve aches & pains from the trauma.

Chronic pain from headaches is often treated with medication. Chiropractic offers relief without the use of pain medicine or muscle relaxers.

Chiropractic adjustments as part of a healthy lifestyle do not necessarily require a specific reason other than general wellness upkeep.

Athletes use chiropractic to improve their performance and increase their energy levels.

Chiropractic Facts for Wellness

There has actually been an influx of new chiropractic patients since the Covid-19 pandemic began. Chiropractors have been deemed essential. They have, for the most part, stayed open through the entire pandemic.

A few reasons have new patient numbers rising steadily:

  • Increased stress
  • Boosts immunity
  • Alleviating headaches & migraines
  • TMJ
  • Mental and physical health
  • Decreases inflammation
  • More time for self-care
  • Limited access to other bodyworkers
  • Increase of physical activity, therefore, injury & needing adjustments

How Chiropractic Helps in a Pandemic

Stress is a factor in 75- 90% of all illnesses. This number may come as a surprise to many of us, an unwelcome surprise. Once you are aware of it, you can start to fix it.

Stress weakens the immune system and chiropractic helps to lower stress levels. We hold stress in our bodies in the form of tight muscles, high blood pressure, anxiety, and so much more.

Isolation takes a toll on us physically, emotionally, and possibly in ways that we are not yet aware of.

All of this talk about chiropractic boosting your immunity, something needs to be made clear that getting an adjustment (or two) will not be your magical defense against Covid-19.

You should still be washing your hands, wearing a mask, socially distancing, and taking proper precautions to protect yourself, and your family.

Getting Results

What type of results do people get with chiropractic, and will you have to go more than once? Depending on your body, your issues, and how well your body responds to chiropractic can all play a factor in how often your chiro will want you to return.

Typically a patient has reoccurring appointments every few weeks, but sometimes it could be as often as every few days.

Similarly to starting a new exercise program, you may feel tenderness following your first few chiropractic visits. You may be advised to avoid strenuous activity, do some light stretching, use ice packs, and drink plenty of water after an adjustment to alleviate any side effects.

The Age of Zoom

It's is a virtual world, and we are just living in it. As if we weren't logging enough screen time before the pandemic, the recent increase in screen time has been significant.

Between meetings that would have otherwise been in person under normal circumstances, and helping our kids with their homeschooling, our screen time may have increased up to 5 times as much.

What do increased screen time and chiropractic have to do with one another? Even if your work station is set up in the most ergonomic way possible, there is an obvious increase in the amount of time spent sitting, typing, and staring at a screen.

All of which can give us tense, shortened muscles, headaches, and extra stress, which can be addressed and treated by chiropractic sessions.

Virtual Visits

We are all finding new ways to adjust in these times while continuing some sort of normalcy. If you are in isolation, and missing your chiropractic visits, you may be happy to hear that there could be relief in your future.

Through "telemedicine" or "telehealth" chiropractors are bringing some relief to their patients virtually. Though this may not give the full experience that they are used to receiving in the office with hands-on adjustments, it is a decent temporary substitute.

You may receive advice on proper body mechanics, stretching, and exercises to help improve your condition from home.
